When a limit is reached
A join that would exceed your concurrent player or room limit is refused with JOIN_REJECTED. Players already connected are not affected. Upgrade from Billing in the dashboard, or request a custom plan on the pricing page.
Connection limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Players per room | 100 |
| Messages per connection | 30 per second, bursts up to 60 |
| WebSocket message size | 64 KB |
| UDP datagram size | 8 KB |
| WebSocket connections per IP address | 50 |
| New UDP sessions per IP address | 30 per minute |
| Failed connection attempts per IP address | 30 per minute |
A connection that keeps sending far beyond its limit is disconnected.
Compute budget
Each project has a compute budget so one busy game cannot slow down others: 250 ms of Function CPU time per second on Free, 500 ms on Small Game, 800 ms on Studio and 900 ms on Build Your Own, with short bursts allowed. Typical Functions take 1 to 3 ms, so this allows hundreds of calls per second. Calls beyond the budget fail with RATE_LIMITED.

Room IDs and player IDs use letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens, up to 64 characters. Subdomains are 3 to 32 characters of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens.
